Whilst working at HCC, Miles was the landscape architect for the RIBA Regional Award winning Runways End outdoor activity centre which was completed in July 2011.
The area covering 3ha is set within mixed deciduous and coniferous woodland near the Kennet and Avon Canal surrounded by SINCs and SSSIs. A series of compacted natural stone gravel paths link the areas of outdoor activity which weave their way through the site. Rainwater run off from roof tops are directed to a water detention basin which has been designed with dipping platform to provide opportunity for outdoor learning.
The site offers excellent facilities in a tranquil woodland setting in North Hampshire, catering for group activities, after school clubs for children between 8 and 14 years old, scout and guide groups with excellent purpose built indoor facilities as well as open areas for camping and activities. Activities offered each week, include caving, canoeing, archery, outdoor climbing, raft building and shooting.
