Located adjacent to Ocean Village in Southampton, landscape proposals were prepared to support a planning application for a seven-storey high density residential development with office and retail uses at ground floor.

The apartments were organised around a courtyard at first floor level situated above parking. The courtyard connects to street level, via a linear space, whilst two roof terraces provide residents with extensive views from sixth and seventh floors over Southampton Water.

The courtyard was designed to direct residents and visitors towards a number of entry points, whilst providing ground floor apartments with a ‘secure’ planted margin. The oval shapes, inspired by a falling leaf, create a dynamic space of movement and level change.

Upper levels were designed for privacy, where residents with young families could enjoy views across the Southampton Water. An enclosed play area was included to encourage social interaction, with wind sculptures to provide additional interest. (CGIs courtesy of Barclay + Phillips)
