As part of a major redevelopment of an existing secondary school in Havant, an all weather 3G football pitch with floodlighting was constructed by Mcardle Sport-Tec to provide enhanced facilities for the school offering evening and weekend use for the community.
Historic maps revealed the land had previously been occupied by buildings before being restored more recently to a natural turf pitch with land drains. A detailed topographic and SUMO survey was commissioned which identified the presence of below ground structures, land drains and an existing storm water drain serving the school. These feature were then taken into account during the detail design and identified as potential project risk costs then avoided during construction.
The site also lay adjacent to a busy road and was overlooked by housing to the south and east. The Oxlease Stream which passes close to the southern boundary was known to provide passage and foraging for a variety of bats which needed to be considered as part of the lighting design.
