Urban Design is the art of ‘creating place’. The urban environment is made up of people who inhabit buildings and space which form complex relationships to one another to create an overall ‘whole’. It is constantly changing due to market forces and population dynamics.
A successful urban designer is able to consider an intervention within the wider context, without prejudice or preference to style or personal ego. He is able to coordinate the disciplines of architecture, engineering, planning, and development under one umbrella and will ensure any intervention will be attractive to the investor, end user, local business and community, and will stand the test of time.
Urban Design provides a framework for design and strategy for change. It assists the development process and enables communities to shape their environment.
