The site was situated within Greenbelt, an Area of Special Landscape Value, and located adjacent to a Scheduled Ancient Monument and SSSI. A Landscape Character Assessment and Zone of Visual Influence identified key views from which photomontages were prepared.

The proposals included the removal of 329 parking spaces and restoring the land to acid grassland; re-siting the centre away from Double Dykes Ancient Scheduled Monument; and integrating the building within an open coastal landscape.

The existing road to The Head was to be reduced in width with light columns being replaced with contemporary fittings to minimise light pollution. Sustainable forms of drainage would ensure discharge of rainwater was dispersed naturally within the landscape.
