queens court, peninsular barracks

Located within the centre of Winchester, landscape proposals were prepared to support a detailed planning application for an infill residential development within the Peninsular Barracks, developed by Try Homes in the mid 1990s.

The development sought to unify a number of listed buildings with new apartments overlooking a public space. The space was designed to allow vehicles to cross the square, and constructed of high quality, durable materials. Parking has been located to the rear of the development and enclosed by walls and railing.

Although the architectural style of the new apartment building has been the cause for much debate, the public domain provides a successful example of a shared space, through which both pedestrians and vehicles can pass.
