hounsdown secondary school
Hounsdown School is typical of a number of schools which have seen massive expansion over recent years. The existing infrastructure could not cope with the increased traffic and number of pupils entering and leaving the School. Proposals were developed to rationalise the access and circulation.
The scheme separates bus movements from cars, and allows 8 buses to serve the School at any one time. Staff car parking has been increased by 90, allowing an area to be dedicated for visitors, and those with special needs close to the main entrance.
A cycle path has been introduced from the main road to the north of the school allowing cyclists to enter and leave the school in safety. A new secure cycle storage facility, which caters for 310 cycles, has also been incorporated. This is under CCTV surveillance.
The scheme now offers a safe route to school for pupils, staff and visitors, and is set within a simple landscape framework of trees and hedgerows.
Cost: £190,000
